Feedback Strategies: Hind Sight is 20/20 - FeedForward

We often tell people information they need far too late. We tell our friends that they missed a turn when on a road trip rather than giving a heads up that the turn off is comming. This is usually due to the thought that the other person knows and we don't want to nag them. But then the turn comes and goes and we are too late. In more serious instances, we may have a friend who is making questionable choices, or maybe we are the ones. Will someone tell you "Hey you might want to rethink that next move."? Or will they tell you they saw the result coming? These are all Feedback ideas, when you are saying "Hey remember when, yeah don't do that do this.". Feedforward, is when you talk to people, or even introspect with yourself, about how to make my future better in some way. How can I get better before I turn something in? What do I want to advance in? Vocabulary? Sentance Structure? Train of thought? Well personally all of these things are a yes for me. I would love to know how to do all of these things perfectly. So in my opinion, feedback and feedforward are both valuable tools. You do need to know where you have been, where you are, and where you're going. One quote that I loved from the article Try Feedforward Instead of Feedback by Marshal Goldsmith, that I think sums this idea perfectly is "We can change the future. We can’t change the past. Feedforward helps people envision and focus on a positive future, not a failed past."
